Mint is one of the most versatile herbs in the market. From chewing gum to garnishing a refreshing drink, we consume the green wonder. It’s also widely used in cooking, in medicine, and as an aromatherapy scent. There are over 600 types of mint. It is also worth noting that popular herbs such as Basil, Rosemary, Sage, Oregano, Thyme, and Lavender belong to the mint family. The popular types of mint usually found in supermarkets include Peppermint, Native Spearmint, Scotch Spearmint, Corn mint, and Apple mint. Here is a little bit more about these fab five.

Peppermint is a hybrid of water mint and spearmint. It is used for toothpaste and tea. Pepper Mint is a natural cure for ailments such as skin irritations, headaches, and upset stomachs. Spearmint is also known as a garden mint. It is used to make Mojitos, Iced teas, and sweet teas. Spearmint contains vital nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants. Spearmint aids in indigestion, maintains healthy blood pressure and helps prevent chronic diseases. The aroma of Spearmint is similar to Peppermint, although Peppermint has a stronger Menthol flavour. Corn mint has a Menthol scent and is mainly used for oil in the US. The flowers of Apple mint is used to make tea, while the crushed leaves are used to treat bee, wasp and other insect bites by rubbing it on the wounded area.

Mint is a herb commonly used to make teas more refreshing. Take for instance the aromatic Moroccan Maghrebi mint tea. We also use mint to enhance the flavour of our gourmet teas. Mint Matcha is our latest Matcha flavour. Our Long Island green tea also contains hints of Mint. Click here to shop for our teas.
