3 Chamomile Soap Recipes

Why Choose Chamomile for Your Soap?

Chamomile is more than just a fragrant flower; it’s packed with benefits for your skin. Its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties make it ideal for soothing irritated skin, reducing redness, and promoting healing. Additionally, chamomile's gentle nature makes it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

Recipe 1: Classic Chamomile Soap

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chamomile flowers

  • 10 oz olive oil

  • 4 oz coconut oil

  • 3 oz shea butter

  • 4 oz lye (sodium hydroxide)

  • 10 oz distilled water

  • 1 oz chamomile essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Infuse the Oils: Start by infusing the olive oil with dried chamomile flowers. Heat the olive oil in a double boiler, add the dried chamomile flowers, and let it simmer on low heat for about 2 hours. Strain and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Lye Solution: Carefully add lye to the distilled water (never the other way around) in a well-ventilated area. Stir until the lye is fully dissolved and set aside to cool.

  3. Melt the Oils: Combine the coconut oil and shea butter in a saucepan and melt over low heat. Once melted, add the infused olive oil.

  4. Mix Lye and Oils: When both the lye solution and oils are at about 100°F, slowly pour the lye solution into the oils. Stir continuously until you reach a light trace (a pudding-like consistency).

  5. Add Essential Oil: Add the chamomile essential oil and mix well.

  6. Pour and Cure: Pour the soap mixture into a mold and let it sit for 24-48 hours. Once hardened, remove from the mold, cut into bars, and cure for 4-6 weeks.
